India's Agni-Prime: A Rail-Launched Strategic Game-Changer
India has successfully tested its new-generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile, Agni-Prime (Agni-P), from a rail-based mobile launcher, marking a significant advancement in its strategic deterrent capabilities. The test, conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), was confirmed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who hailed it as a major achievement. While the launch was from a rail-based system, it is crucial to clarify a key detail: the missile was not fired from a moving train. Instead, the test utilized a specially designed canisterized launcher that was mounted on a flatbed rail wagon. This system was positioned on a dedicated track at the test range, functioning as a proof-of-concept for a rail-mobile launch complex.
